Speaking at Meli Primary School in Gilgil on Friday, governor Kinuthia Mbugua called on parents to be on the fore front in supporting educational matters in the county so as to steer Nakuru to greater heights.

"As a government, we are trying our best to ensure that learners in majority of our schools, especially in rural areas access quality education, but some parents are letting us down," he said.

Governor Kinuthia Mbugua said that parents' participation was key in ensuring that students excel academically.

According to Mbugua, performing well in school does not mean that one confines himself to a classroom, it trickles down from when a child steps out from their door step.

"Studies indicate that a clean, presentable and decent uniform dignifies and lifts the moral of learners, resulting into improved performance," he said.

He added that: "So, leaving your child to move around in tattered uniform then expecting good results should even not be on your mind."

The governor spent better part of last week traversing different local schools ,donating new uniforms and other learning material in what is geared towards improving education standards in the county.
