Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has dismissed claims that the Council of Governors case is affecting road projects in the 47 counties.

Instead, Mbugua said the national government is still holding on some roads whose maintenance is under the county governments.

‘The constitution has devolved class D and E roads, but the national government does not release funds for these roads to the counties, yet we are expected to maintain them. This is the reason we went to court so that the national government can be pressured to give these funds to the county government and the courts agreed’, said the Governor .

According to Mbugua, county governments have no problem with the national government maintaining roads allocated to it by the constitution.

The county boss said CoG has agreed to sign agreements for already contracted roads.

He spoke on Friday at Mbaruk/Eburru, Gilgil sub-county where he donated school uniforms to pupils of Ol-Jorai Primary school.

The Governor also lauded the 8,000km roads by the national government, saying Nakuru County will immensely benefit from this project.

The Gilgil-Elementaita and Barnabas-Elementaita Mau Narok roads, are some of the roads that will be rehabilitated in the county through the above mentioned project initiated by the national government.
