The Nakuru government has pledged to work on a funding scheme for county bursary which seeks to champion for adequate financing of those who are awarded bursaries in their wards.
Governor Kinuthia Mbugua said the amount of money the county government has been giving to the beneficiaries is inadequate to pay school fees for the whole year.
“County leadership will consult with members of the county assembly to ensure that beneficiaries at the ward level get a reasonable amount which can be full bursary funding or three quarters of the same,” he said on Wednesday in Nakuru.
“This is to make sure that at least the funds help a beneficiary to another level rather than hundreds who will not even be able to pay the balance. We want to ask the MCAs not to look too much on political mileage but the education quality of these children,” he said.
He also underscored the need to have education fully devolved to county governments saying it is a sad state of affairs for infrastructure in some schools in Nakuru.
However, the governor said he will continue supporting education in primary and secondary schools through resource mobilisation for upgrading infrastructure.
He was accompanied by his deputy Joseph Ruto. The meeting was also attended by Nakuru County Teachers Service Commmission director Agnetta Kitheka.
