Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has directed teachers at Kenjoketty Primary School in Kuresoi North to provide pupils with hand washing facilities.

This is after he visited the school on Thursday and found its toilets in sorry state, forcing him to call for a truck to exhaust the toilets.

Mbugua said it was important for the pupils to clean their hands after every visit to the toilet but such facilities were missing.

“Sanitation is very important because it helps in keeping some contagious diseases at bay, and I would like to request teachers in this school to offer hand washing facilities even if they are just simple because it will help in keeping our hygiene perfectly well,” he said.

Besides providing the facilities, he said, they should also educate the pupils on the importance of sanitation because it has to start with theory then to practicals.

“If we teach them at this age the importance of sanitation, they will not forget and will make it a habit to wash their hands every other time they visit the toilet which is hygienic,” he said.

The governor promised to have an early childhood development education centre built as it will be factored in 2016-17 county budget.
