Nakuru governor Kinuthia Mbugua has called on medical practitioners in the county to prioritise professionalism in their line of duty to avert cases of negligence being experienced in some counties.

Speaking at a Naivasha hotel on Wednesday while officially launching of the fourth Infection Prevention Network–Kenya (IPNET-K) Conference, the governor tasked the practitioners to ensure that their services are executed diligently to avoid cases of losing lives due to doctors, nurses and other health experts absconding duty.

“It has happened elsewhere and I don’t want the same to be replicated here because all of us have a responsibility of preserving life at any time, especially at our duty stations,” he said.

The conference brings together practitioners with an aim of deliberating on antibiotic resistance, an on-going global campaign that seeks to minimise the ability to treat infectious diseases and deflating advances in health and medicine.

Mbugua noted that his government was committed at reducing birth mortality rates and other infectious diseases to be abreast with the globally recommended standards.

“As we strive to be among the best service providers in the region as a county, health is one of the most important sectors that need consideration and a gathering like this will help us understand where we need to improve to achieve our targets,” he added.

The three day seminar brings together policy makers, administrators, clinicians, pharmacists, laboratory personnel, nurses and veterinary practitioners in antimicrobial use campaign currently being undertaken in the county.
