Nakuru governor Kinuthia Mbugua has expressed the need for the redirection of the standard gauge railway line to Mai mahiu and Mt Longonot regions.
Speaking on Tuesday, Mr Mbugua argued that there was a need to include the two areas along the railway line since they were great economic hubs that the country relied on and being crossed by the great line would help boost the county's revenue collection.
"It would be a greater boost if the SGR line could cross both Longonot and Mai mahiu since these two centres greatly contribute to the economic ability of this county," he said.
If the governor's pleas are considered then the railway line will follow the escarpment to Mai mahiu through the southern Longonot mountains and end in Naivasha sub-county.
Mbugua also hailed the SGR project as timely and that which will create job opportunities to many unemployed youths not only in the county alone but also across the country.
