The lack of a title deed has hampered the reorganisation of jua kali artisans and traders in Kisumu.
Railways ward representative Isaiah Onyango said the document has put on hold any plan within the Jua kali area.
Speaking to the pres in Kisumu on Tuesday, Onyango said funds are ready to bring up a magnificent building within Jua kali area but that will be done moments a title deed is acquired.
“The document is vital and the process of obtaining it is a bit difficult, we are still praying that the title deed will be acquired,” he said.
He said currently, there is a huge chunk of land that has been taken by vehicles that had broken down.
“Go to Jua kali area and you can county over 200 vehicles that have grounded parked. That space they are covering is big enough to accommodate more traders,” he said.
Onyango alleged that the owners of those vehicles are still holding onto the land noting that they are not ready to remove them to pave way for other people to do business.
He said the plan is to come up with a building that will accommodate all the mechanics, artisans and other traders in the area.
The jua kali traders last year organised a fundraising that was attended by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero that netted almost over Sh10 million.
