Nominated MCA Esther Njeri Mengere has called on the government to provide security for school going children.

This was after the kidnap and attempted rape of a class eight student in Molo area by three men.

The men who attempted to defile the girl are still at large.

The MCA pointed out that the girls stood at risk of being raped or maimed.

“They have pressure to attend school as early as six and in most cases it is very dark. During the rainy season, it also becomes hard for them to see well and hence the need to offer them security,” she added.

The student told journalists on Monday that the three men abducted her on her way to school claiming they wanted to talk to her.

She narrated that the men had covered themselves carried her and took her to a nearby bush and beat her up.

“I tried to scream but they covered my mouth and threatened to kill me in case I screamed,” she added.

The girl narrated that as she struggled to release herself, and a farmer who was passing by with his herd scared the rapists.

“They then ran away after torturing me for more than two hours,” she added.

The incident raised fears in the area as parents piled pressure on the police to help arrest the kidnappers.

According to the girl’s father, she needs urgent counselling.

“We have taken her to Molo District Hospital for tests but she also needs counselling,” he added
