Bahati MCA Peter Mwangi Nderitu is confident that the second and last phase of the street lighting project will begin early January 2016, refuting claims that the funds had been misappropriated.
Speaking on Thursday at the Chania shopping centre in his Bahati ward after being confronted by area residents to give an account of the money intended for the project they say has stalled, Nderitu noted that everything was in order and it was a matter of time before initial work begins.
Nderitu noted that everything was in the pipeline with the contractor having to wait for a time with limited rains because it was dangerous handling live wires with the on-going El Nino rains.
“I am among the assembly committee members in the taskforce mandated to oversee the street lighting project and I cannot let you down, our dream of having well lit streets is still alive and we are not going to rest until when the project is fully implement not only here but in other parts of our beloved county,” he noted.
The Bahati MCA said that the ‘Mulika Mwizi’ project will never stall on the basis of lack of funds or misappropriation owing to the fact that the initiative is a perfect way of taming crime and increasing business hours in different crime prone areas.
He further revealed that youths will be included in the next phase by being offered manual jobs and grounds men but noted that everything would be communicated in due time.
“The funds meant for the ‘Mulika Mwizi’ project in Ahero, Kanduma, Wanyororo, Bahati centre and Karunga were allocated in this financial year’s budget, all we call for is patient. Rest assured that your money is safe,” he said.
Nderitu made a stopover while on transit from Wanyororo where he was the chief guest in a funds drive in aid of Jane Wambui; a disabled upcoming gospel artist who needed funds for recording of her first album set for official launching on 25 December.
