A Kisii member of the county assembly has been accused of being disrespectful and using obscene language to a woman in his ward.
Ms Naomi Mong'ina Nyakeya accuses Bogiakumu ward representative Richard Bundi Machana of calling her a prostitute and a cow, among other insults that cannot be published.
In a recorded telephone conversation between the two, the MCA is heard dismissing Ms Nyakeya as a lesser person to argue and associate with.
“I’m I of your caliber? I cannot even waste my time with you on bed,” the angry MCA is heard saying in the recoded conversation.
The genesis of the matter, according to Nyakeya, started on March 17 this year, when she warned residents against electing corrupt and selfish leaders. She spoke while addressing mourners in the ward.
She alleged the MCA solicited for a bribe from the poor bereaved family so that he could help them in facilitating waiving of the hospital bill.
Ms Nyakeya revealed that the deceased had stayed at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH) for three weeks, with the bill accumulating to Sh26,000, and a week later the child died.
“I was given the opportunity to address mourners because I played a big role in trying to save the deceased and I took the opportunity to make the people know and understand the kind of leaders we elected," said Nyakeya.
“When the bereaved family approached him for help, he demanded a bribe of Sh10,000 before giving his service. The family could not afford that money because the bill had accumulated to Sh26,000," she added.
"He has the tendency because he also sought a bribe of sh. 60,000 from me when I asked him for a job. Alternatively, he told me to give in so that he could consider me. We cannot afford to have leaders who, instead of protecting their people, they are stealing from them. He lacks the moral attributes a leader should have,” she said.
Nyakeya has since called the police to investigate the matter and have the MCA and his personal assistant, Fred Mapoa, among other allies, brought to book.
“I reported the matter at Gesonso police station. Though they are dragging their feet, am waiting for a course of action," hoped Nyakeya.
"The MCA is also using his allies to intimidate and threaten me. I am ready and want to face him in court. My lawyer is ready,” she added.
When reached for a comment, the MCA dismissed Nyakeya’s accusations, claiming that she is paid by his detractors to tarnish his name.
“I am not a fool to demand a bribe from an ailing person. I am not that cheap. I’m aware my opponents have paid her to taint my name," said Bundi.
"She does not have respect to me as an elected leader. She is alleging that I demanded Sh60,000 from her or so that I could give her a job. I neither asked to sleep with her for the offer as she claims. This is total malice and falsehood. I am ready, let us meet in court,” the MCA added.
