A member of the Nakuru County assembly has lashed at pressure groups in the county of being used by some politicians to disrupt the functions of the county government through protests.
Kivumbini ward representative Vitalis Otieno claimed that officials of human rights groups have been receiving funding from a section of politicians to hold protests and bring up corruption allegations against the county government.
Speaking Sunday at Kivumbini estate, Otieno further claimed that the recent protest against the Kinuthia Mbugua-led government were fully funded by members of parliament from the county, who he accused of being against Mbugua’s leadership.
“The protests being organised by pressure groups against the government are being funded by some politicians who want to disrupt the life of this government before 2017 and I want to tell them to give Governor Mbugua time to execute his mandate and deliver his promises to the people,” said Otieno.
But Nakuru County TNA chairman Abdul Noor has defended civil society groups, saying that they had a right to speak against what he called rampant corruption in the county government .
“If MCAs cannot speak against corruption in government then we as the civil society and pressure groups we will do it and no one is funding us but we are just exercising our constitutional right,” said Noor.
