The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) national secretariat has been faulted for allegedly being ‘too’ soft on MPs who have shown defiance to the party by supporting the ruling Jubilee coalition openly.

Sameta MCA Evans Siko on Wednesday at a rally in his backyard said the rebel MPs should have their membership revoked and subsequently expelled from the party.

He said the MPs in question were leading by a bad example by defying the party’s stand in critical moments when it’s fighting alleged corruption in government.

“I am a life member of ODM and I am really unhappy with the governing council for being too soft on rebel MPs. They should be expelled from the party and their seats declared vacant because the political parties act is clear on that. We would rather work with few who are willing than many who are coating our rivals,” he said.

According to Siko, the trend was exponentially weakening the party’s principles and structures and challenged party whips to do their job to save the dwindling image of the single largest party in the National Assembly.

“It’s really amazing that ODM governors, Senators and MCAs are upholding the party’s ideals but some MPs have shown arrogance of dancing to the tune of government. What makes it worse is that we are seeing this when we are fighting graft in the country. The culprits should be kicked out so that we strengthen our party ahead of national polls in 2017,” he said.

Among the MPs who have openly defied the party to support the Jubilee government include Richard Onyonka (Kitutu Chache South), Gideon Mung’aro (Kilifi North) and a host of others from the former Western Province.
