Nyansiongo Township MCA Jackson Mogusu on Monday chaired crisis talks between teachers and parents over dismal performances by area schools in 2015 KCPE examinations.

The meeting was precipitated by calls from head teachers from the region who have for a long time accused parents of contributing towards poor performances.

Speaking during the meeting at Gesebei, Mr Mogusu challenged parents and teachers to execute their roles without overstepping in each other’s mandate.

“I am worried that our region has continued to perform dismally in national exams. This trend isn’t exciting at all and I want to challenge parents and teachers to play their roles without clashing against each other. Good performances cannot be realised if we do not play our roles effectively,” he said.

He cautioned parents against interfering with internal management of the issues and also challenged teachers to put more efforts in preparing students adequately before national exams.

“I have heard much about parents interfering with management of schools. That should never happen at all because we have your representatives who should work with teachers. I also want to challenge teachers to put more effort to ensure our children are adequately prepared,” he added.

He urged parents to ensure their children attend school following reports that a number of parents were allowing their children to stay out of school and help them working in their farms.

“I have already met you teachers and parents separately and we have ironed out the issues. All we want to see is our children going to school and getting results. My leadership will always support all institutions so that we get rid of the poor trend in performances. We don’t want to see institutions scoring means of below 200 marks like what we saw in 2015 KCPE,” he added.
