Mekenene ward (Nyamira County) Member of County assembly has initiated a learning resource center which is set to host a number of both primary and secondary schools from the region.
Mr Alfayo Ngeresa who visited the 15M facility whose construction is underway on Tuesday said the learning resource center is set to give students from the region opportunity to access learning materials that are not found in their respective school libraries.
He said once the building is completed and equipped with learning materials, the center will be under the supervision of a team of professionals who will be appointed by his office.
“The truth of the matter remains that our schools have performed poorly in previous national exams both at secondary and primary level hence the Ngeresa Foundation thought of constructing a learning resource center. It will cost approximately 15M minus expenses of equipping it with learning materials. A team of professionals will be in charge of it once it’s completed,” he said.
He lauded UK-based Sir John Leeman Foundation for being instrumental in supporting the project and its willingness to purchase learning materials.
“On behalf of Ngeresa Foundation, I would like also to thank managers of Sir John Leeman Foundation from UK for offering to support us initiate the learning center for the sake of improving academics in our local schools through availing learning materials near them,” he said.
He said the 200 capacity learning center once completed will give services daily with doors opened also on weekends to allow students do their personal studies and will supplement a community library which is also under construction.
