Kisumu County Police Commander Nelson Njiri has been asked to act and improve the security in the county.

Nominated MCA Lydia Odhiambo told this writer on Wednesday during an telephone interview that the number of traffic police roadblocks ought to be reduced and night police patrols heightened.

Ms Odhiambo noted that the police patrols at night have reduced in most parts of the county.

"We no longer have heightened police patrols in Migosi and Manyatta yet these are the most affected areas when it comes to security. More police patrols should be done at night in most parts of the county," she said.

The legislator regretted that scores of people were reported dead and others injured with houses torched during last Saturday's Kibigori clashes.

"I believe if there were police patrols in the area, the unfortunate incident would not have happened."

Kisumu Regional Traffic Enforcement Officer Joshua Omukata however dismissed the call for reduced traffic police roadblocks saying that the number of unroadworthy vehicles have risen.

"We must ensure that our roads are safe to all users and at all times. We need to increase and not reduce the police roadblocks on our roads," said the traffic police boss.
