South West Kisumu ward representative Joseph Abiola has sponsored a three day exercise to give locals in his ward national identity cards and voter’s cards.
Abiola said this was the only support he can give former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as he prepares to vie for presidency in 2017.
He said that Raila has fought for devolution and must be assisted by all means to ascend to power.
“Today I have a name honourable because I am a ward representative. Raila fought hard to bring devolution and I have to reciprocate by registering many supporters of ODM party to vote for him in 2017 general election,” he said.
The three days exercise that begins tomorrow will capture voters in Ojola, Kanyawegi and Osiri sub locations.
Speaking to the press in Kisumu on Tuesday a head of the exercise on Wednesday, Abiola called for mobilisation of people to turn up in large numbers and apply for the documents.
He called upon other MCAs to organise such massive recruitment drive to ensure those without the two documents are registered.
“I want to appeal to my MCAs colleagues to use the little resources we have to reach out to those who are not registered to acquire the cards,” he said.
Abiola said that the Luo community must now unite and reach out to everyone with the gospel of voter registration to boost the number of voters in the region.
