The national government has come under sharp criticism by MCAs for allegedly failing to disburse funds to counties to carter for El Nino emergencies.
The MCAs led by Charles Nyagoto (Bogeka Ward) addressed a press conference on Thursday afternoon at the Kisii County Assembly buildings, where they accused the national government of its slow pace in disbursing the funds to assist affected persons by the rains.
"As members of the Kisii County Assembly, we are concerned about this delay of El Nino emergency and mitigation funds from the national government, yet our people continue to suffer the consequences of the heavy rains," stated Nyagoto, on behalf of his colleagues.
Nyagoto said that some of the money will be used to install lightning arrestors in several areas to avert lightning strikes, rehabilitate damaged roads and bridges and to establish and equip evacuation centres across the county to accommodate families displaced by the floods and mudslides.
"We ask residents living in areas prone to mudslides and floods to relocate to safer grounds during this rainy season," appealed Nyagoto.
