Heavy rains witnessed in Kisii County have been blamed for exposing traders to a lot of losses through destruction of property, a section of MCAs have lamented.

Led by Bogeka Ward MCA Charles Nyagoto, the leaders expressed fear that if the situation continues, it will lead to losses not only to the trders but also to the county government whose revenue base will be threatened and lead to poor economic performance in the region.

Nyagoto singled out the Daraja Mbili open air market where flash floods swept off traders' wares and property worth millions of shillings as others nearly lost their lives in the Monday evening floods.

"Economic activities in this county have been disrupted and in the latest incident, traders at Daraja Mbili open air market lost property worth millions of shillings after flash floods swept through the market on Monday evening," lamented the MCA.

"In Kisii County we have been adversely affected by the heavy rains not only through loss of property but also loss of lives. Last month, we lost four people through when lightning struck at Ibencho in Bomachoge Chache sub-county," stated Nyagoto.

He spoke on Thursday afternoon at the county assembly buildings.

He was accompanied by his Boochi Borabu counterpart Samuel Onuko.
