Kamenu MCA Mary Hussein’s vehicle and property of unknown value were on Sunday morning torched in what has been described as a revenge mission by a section of traders in the area.

The traders said to be from the Madaraka market are demanding answers from the area leadership after the market was razed to ashes.

They are claiming that the MCA is working together with the county government of Kiambu to harass them by burning their property.

According to Makongeni OCS Samuel Khisa who was leading anti-riot officers to contain the situation, the fire brigade didn't turn up to help in controlling the fire and that they tried in vain to contain the fire.

Khisa, who speake to this writer in a phone interview, said that the traders may be planning to protest and block roads in the area.

He, however, says that police have strategically planned on how to contain them if they become chaotic.

Thika District Business Association (TDBA) secretary Sam Chege who is also the Madaraka market secretary said that they had held a meeting to plan the way forward before the incident occurred.

“We have been in a meeting so as to address the traders, but we have just cut it short after the skirmishes began. They have torched the MCA’s house and the vehicle that was parked outside. Nothing has been saved,” Chege said.

The MCA had not responded to calls from this writer for a comment by the time of going to press.
