Nyamira County Assembly Speaker Joash Nyamoko has issued a stern warning to MCAs over deliberate absenteeism from assembly proceedings.
Nyamoko said on Wednesday that his office will enforce the law on those found culpable by declaring their seats vacant.
“I want to again remind MCAs that they have a role to play in the assembly. The must do what the law says, failure to which I will enforce the law. Deliberate absenteeism is forbidden and they must be prepared for a by-election,” he said.
Nyamoko also warned the assembly members against making technical appearance in the chambers only to vanish for other businesses.
“Coming to the assembly alone is not enough. They must stay and debate on serious issues or move motions. I cannot allow incidents in which they come over and just record their presence technically. We have a lot of issues that they have to attend to within the assembly and that must be done,” he said.
Nyamoko challenged the assembly members to be patriotic to the country and help come up with legislations that can improve livelihoods of county residents.
“They were elected to represent people. It’s not a must they only observe the eight days ultimatum but stay around and deliberate on legislations that can help the county move ahead,” he said.
He also urged assembly members to work extra hard in committee sittings for expeditious considerations in assembly debates.
