A 39-year-old man who is mentally challenged was beaten by an angry mob on Wednesday evening after he allegedly killed his one and a half year old niece in Ndalani market, Yatta Sub County.
Yatta OCPD Mr Edward Kipsang said that the man named Kioko Muli murdered the young girl using a brick stone.
"The man is currently in critical condition due to the mob justice by Ndalani market residents and business operators and is receiving treatment in Matuu level 4 hospital," said Kipsang.
Police officers from Matuu Police station arrived at the scene in time to save the suspect from the angry mob and dispersed them.
The police officers took the body of the deceased to Matuu level 4 hospital mortuary.
Kipsang, however, criticised the action of the mob saying that considering that they all knew that the man is mentally challenged they should have not acted so inhumanly.
Kipsang warned against such actions by mobs in future saying that it is against the law adding people should instead report such cases to the police and let the them and the court do their work.
