Non-adults from Mavoko, Machakos County have been told to keep off from liquor drinking dens.
Speaking to this writer at his office in Athi River town on Wednesday, assistant county commissioner David Tegutwa warned that children found in such places will be apprehended.
“There is no child from Mavoko division who is allowed to visit alcohol joints for whatever reasons, any who defies this order will be arrested by our security agents,” said Tegutwa.
According to Tegutwa, several minors from the region and especially those whose families live in slums visit drinking dens though are prohibited from doing so by the law.
He said such drinking joints included bars, restaurants, pubs, spirit and wine drinking dens alongside other informal liquor consumption places where local alcohol are sold.
Tegutwa said the prohibited joints corrupt children’s morals prompting some to become drunkards while others take advantage of such environments to engage in prostitution for cash.
He called on parents from the region to be on fore front in restricting their children from visiting such places through playing their roles of providing basic needs and ensuring the children are always guided and counseled.
Tegutwa said the law will equally catch up with irresponsible parents who neglect their children thereby exposing them to illicit activities in the community.
