A girl of 10 years who had gone missing for two days was on Thursday found dead in a neighbour’s house in Maweni, Likoni.
The girl was found dead underneath the neighbour’s bed after residents searched the house.
One of the neighbours, Mr Gabriel Otieno, told journalists that the suspect was helping in the search for the girl who went missing on Tuesday evening.
The residents became suspicious of the man and Mr Otieno went to the suspect’s house pretending to borrow a music CD but the man refused to allow him in.
“The area residents later on demanded to search the house but the man managed to fled before we searched the house.”
“After searching the house, we found the girl under a bed and she had cut marks on her body and also there was a machete beside her. We informed the police who arrived at the scene and took the body,” added Otieno.
Likoni police chief Willy Simba, who confirmed the incident, said they have leads they are pursuing and are tracking down the suspect.
Mr Simba said they suspect the man who kidnapped the girl defiled the girl before killing her.
“We have launched investigations into the matter and we are pursuing the suspect who escaped before the police arrived,” the police boss said.
