The speech delivered by Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama on Tuesday during the official reopening of county assembly has elicited mixed reactions from area members of county assembly.
Nyagarama had defended the development record of his government saying he had managed to do over 250 km of road, introducing AI services for dairy farmers, investing in health care and Early Childhood education.
However, a number of MCAs allied to Jubilee dismissed the speech as ‘imaginary’ and accused the executive of being an impediment to development in grassroots.
“As members of opposition in county assembly, we want to categorically say that the Governor’s track record is a bunch of imagination pieces full of fiction, and its high time he woke up to reality," said Minority leader Jackson Mogusu.
"His county executives are lazy and none is willing to implement projects which we pass in the assembly. His regime has been a detractor to development because he is a laissez-faire leader,” he added.
His Sironga counterpart dismissed the development record of the county government and accused the county executives of laxity.
“The Governor should have explained to us why we have a number of stole projects ranging from roads to ECDE classes and even understaffing in our village polys. His county executives are a complete letdown because none seems to be serious in implementing our recommendations,” he said.
However, Majority leader Laban Masira termed the Governor’s speech as a success and said the county had achieved a number of development projects despite minimum resources to the county.
“The national government is culpable of delaying funds and the county only collects very little revenue. The speech as a success because as a county we have seen health sector get equipped with facilities, ECDE schools have been equipped also, a larger percentage of feeder roads have also been fixed. We still have a year to complete some of stall projects,” he said.
