Politicians in Kisumu have been asked to spearhead the campaign exercise aimed at mobilising the lakeside residents to apply for national identity cards.
Kisumu businessman cum politician Alex Owino said the region has a high number of unregistered voters despite its high population.
Owino, popularly know as Aleki, said a number of youths have no ID cards hence cannot participate in elections.
Last year, Aleki led an ID registration mobilisation exercise in Nyalenda, Migosi and Manyatta areas.
"I have learnt that many of the youths we see today do not have ID cards and this is why I call upon my fellow politicians to mobilise the youths to apply for the dcouments."
Kisumu's huduma Centre Immigration Assistant Ishmael Ochieng said there are many uncollected ID cards at Prosperity House.
He urged politicians to mobilise all those who had registered for national ID cards to collect them.
"Lets all avoid last minute rush next year," said Ochieng.
