Residents at the Coastal region have urged the national and county government to boost security and surveillance in the region following an attack by al-Shabaab militants on Sunday in Lamu County.
Three people were killed and several others injured after armed suspected al-Shabaab militants attacked residents at Pandanguo in Lamu.
Mr Joseph Baraka, a resident, said the issue of terrorism remains real and the security agents need to be alert to avert further loss of innocent lives.
Baraka who is a businessman in Mombasa Town, said the government needs to deploy more security officers to patrol the region in a bid to boost surveillance.
“The government needs to beef up security and guarantee safety of all Kenyans. Security needs to be intensified and patrols increased in the region,” said Baraka.
Ms Sarah Halima, a Mombasa resident, questioned what was being done by the government to address insecurity in the Coast region.
“This region has become prone to numerous terror attacks in the recent past. What is the government doing to ensure the residents are protected?” asked Halima.
She added: “We are tired of losing friends and family members due to terror attack. The government needs to provide enough security.”
