One hundred and three private candidates from Gatundu North have registered to sit for their Kenya certificate of Primary Education examination slated to begin next week.

Speaking on Wednesday afternoon at his Kamwangi office, the area deputy Adult Education Officer, Francis Manyoya said out of the 103 private candidates, 17 were inmates drawn from the three prisons in Gatundu North.

"In 2013, 95 private registered students sat for their KCPE while in 2014 a total of 61 private candidates sat for the examination and this year, we have registered a total of 103 candidates to sit for their KCPE," he said.

He revealed that the inmates were from Gatundu and Gakoe prisons respectively adding that all preparations to have them sit for the exam were complete.

"The oldest private candidate is aged 31 years while the youngest is 14 years old," he revealed.

The deputy education officer said he was optimistic that this year’s candidates would perform better since they were well prepared for the examination.

"In 2014, our best private candidate scored 361 marks while the lowest scored 191 marks something that gives us more hope to expect better results this year,’ he added.
