Schools in Nyamira County are set to receive books and other stationary material to boost academic standards in the region.
Speaking at a ceremony on Thursday that saw Nyamira Secondary School receive dozens of books, Senator Okongo Mong’are said the program of donating books will be rolled out to other education institutions.
He urged the county government of Nyamira to help local schools to set up structures that could be used as study rooms.
“I support education and I want to remind you that my program of donating books is still intact," he said.
"We will be keen to intensify the program so that local schools benefit from it to boost academic performances. I have spoken to the governor and he has assured me that he will set libraries in a number of schools that have gone years without study rooms."
“We have not done well as schools in this region in national exams and I think this is the time for our teachers and students to take the advantage and restore our academic prowess."
The book donation program by the Senator is set to cover Kitutu Masaba, Borabu, West Mugirango and North Mugirango and will factor both primary and secondary schools that are in dire need.
