Traffic police in Thika and its environs on Saturday confiscated over 15 vehicles among them 3 Kenya Mpya buses in a crackdown that was aimed at eliminating the unroadworthy vehicles that are alleged to have been causing accidents.
According to the traffic base commander William Uhuru, the vehicles had either tampered with the digital speed governors, over speeding, worn out tyres, without insurance or even overloading.
“We want to make it clear to the drivers that if they can’t maintain calmness and obey traffic rules that we are going to deal with them. Anyone who cannot follow the stipulated laws of traffic will be prosecuted as we will not let anyone risk the lives of the people,” Uhuru said.
He called on the people of Thika to be cautious and report any driver over speeding or risking their lives while driving.
The impounded vehicles are in Thika police station as the drivers are set to appear in court on Monday for contravening the traffic rules.
