Kangundo Traffic Base Commander, Davis Okisai has sent a warning to drivers, passengers, motorists, pedestrians and all other road users along the Nairobi-Kangundo road to be extra cautious especially as the festive season approaches.

Speaking at a press conference in his office in Kangundo town on Wednesday, Mr Okisai said there have been many of accidents along the road especially during the end of the year.

"We have recorded many accidents along Nairobi-Kangundo road this year which have resulted in several deaths and even permanent body disabilities to other victims," he said.

"Last year, it was the same case that the accident frequency increased during the December period."

Mr Okisai strongly condemned overloading of vehicles emphasising that it is not only the conductors' or drivers' mistake to carry excess passengers but it is also the passengers responsibility to ensure that they do not get into an already filled matatu.

He also advised passengers to ensure persistent seat belt use and reporting of any reckless drivers to avoid road accidents during the festive season which comes with lots of traveling as people join their families and friends for celebrations.

Mr Okisai added that vehicle inspections for speed governors in public service vehicles will commence immediately and anyone found to have their speed governors tempered with will face the law.
