Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a has called for accountability on how funds set aside by Kiambu County government for El Nino emergencies were spent.

Ng'ang'a asked governor William Kabogo to explain how the funds were used in disaster management.

She said the county government should intervene and offer humanitarian assistance to the residents of Gatuanyaga, who she said were losing their livestock due to unknown diseases.

She also said their crops were being invaded by pests, which could lead to food insecurity.

“It is very sad to see residents suffer and the county not supporting them by any means yet they announced they had set aside funds for disaster management which have not been utilised until now,” she said.

She said the governor should be clear on how the funds were being used since the national treasury had confirmed release of the funds to the county government.

She was speaking in Thika Town on Thursday.
