The Kibera MP, Ken Okoth, on Tuesday, gave 150 licenses to 150 youths from five wards in Kibera constituency.

The move was meant to improve and give employment to youths within the area. This was awarded following their good performance in vocational schools.

''The issue of youth unemployment in urban marginalized areas is ticking time bomb and if it’s not addressed urgently, it will explode,'' said Okoth.

He further advocated for skills development among the youths to help the boost their income. The skill development exercise is also not to benefit youths alone but women too. Okoth advocated for vocational skills to help those who were not fortunate to get quality education. This according to the MP will help them sharpen their skills and help them start their own jobs.

He said a comprehensive approach is required to integrate young women and men in labour market including relevant and quality school training, labour market information, employment services and career guidance, incorporating entrepreneurship with training and effective skills forecasting.

''’The MP believes improved basic education basic education and core work skills are particularly important to enable youths to engage in lifelong learning to help them tackle the labor market,'' said the constituency parliamentary liaison, Vincent Ayako.
