Turbo MP Elisha Busienei on Monday commissioned the opening and handing over of a doctors’ residence to the Uasin Gishu County government at Kapyemit and Kiplombe health centres in Turbo Sub-County.
Speaking during the function, Busienei said the facility will help residents ease traveling expenses adding that with the provision of doctor’s quarters, they will be available all through to deliver services to Uasin Gishu residents.
“These facilities will help us seek medical services within our locality. We are no longer moving to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) for any treatment unless the condition comes beyond our able doctors and nurses” said Hon Busienei.
He said the national government is planning to expand MTRH and equip it with more modernized facilities so as to offer Uasin Gishu and neighbouring resident’s benefit of treatment within their city. He added that there is need for every facility in Kenya to be equipped with modern equipment.
The county executive for health Margaret Chepkwony said the health department will assign health volunteers to check heath states of Uasin Gishu residents. She added that residents should believe in the availability of health facilities that the county has at the grassroots to avoid congestion in other hospitals such as MTRH.
“Health officers will be carrying out analysis on health sates at the community level.this will help us root out communicable diseases. We need to utilise health facilities at the grassroots to avoid congestion in other hospitals,” said Chepkwony.
Chepkwony added that since the health department was devolved, most diseases are treated at the dispensary level. In addition, she noted that county government will do its health budget at the facility levels for easy pinpointing of what is required in every centre.
The chief officer health Wilson Kemei said the county government has enough health workers, every dispensary having not less than five nurses. Kemei termed the availability of dispensaries at the county levels a great achievement that the county has done in availing health services closer to the people.
