Nyaribari Chache MP Richard Tong’i has attributed the high poverty levels in Nyaribari Chache to illiteracy.

He said the constituency and the county have lagged behind in development due to the low standards of education among locals.

Speaking during a tour in his constituency on Thursday, the MP described education as the only way through which poverty can be fought against.

He said it was important for the students to take education seriously because that is where they could learn from educationists and achieve their dreams.

He urged students to work hard and use local professionals as their role models to enable them improve their academic performance and education standards.

“We have very poor people in the area and that is brought by the growing number of school dropouts, a tendency that we want to stop,” he added.

He called on the students to maintain high discipline because discipline is the major key to success.
