Machakos County Governor Alfred Mutua has issued a stern warning to county officials who solicit for bribes in his name.
Addressing journalists at his office on Monday, Governor Mutua said there are officials who receive bribes from building contractors and drivers at weighbridges claiming that the governor had ordered them to do so.
The governor said such people are out to tarnish his name and mock his fight against corruption.
This comes two weeks after the county boss suspended corrupt and non-performing employees, in a bid to rid the county of corruption.
"It has come to my attention that there are people soliciting bribes from building contractors and lorry drivers at weighbridges in my name. I want it to be in the public domain that they are out to tarnish my name by claiming to have been sent by me,” said Mutua.
The governor said that whoever will be found culpable of the offence will be prosecuted.
"Such people are pulling us back yet we are trying to move forward. Action will be taken against them,” said Mutua.
