During his speech when opening Machakos investment conference back in 2013, Machakos governor Dr Alfred Mutua pledged to invest heavily in the entertainment industry by setting up Machawood, a film project.
He even allocated a 50 acre land for constructing film and music studios.
Three years later, there is not so much to celebrate about Machahood.
What then went wrong with the big plans the governor had and which was received well by the people of Machakos? Was the governor just playing politics? Was Machahood project a case of smoke without fire?
It is 2016 and next year the country is going for a general election. That means his time, assuming he will not be re-elected, is over.
I do not want to blame the governor for not producing many movies like the Nigerian Film industry Nollywood but organizing just one outdoor movie experience for the residents of Machakos is surely not enough.
