National Campaign Against Drug Abuse (Nacada) chairman John Mututho has started constructing a multi-million talent centre for youths in Nakuru County.
Construction work has already started in the centre, located in Pipeline area, sits on a 15-acre piece of land and it is expected to attract at least 500 youths everyday who will come to nurture their skills.
“The centre will contain a basketball, netball, volleyball and football pitch. It will also have a gymnastic arena and an athletic track. This will ensure that any youth who is talented in a particular sport can be able to come and practice,” said Mututho.
Mututho was speaking on Wednesday to the press where he added that there will also be a music centre complete with instruments for musicians in the area.
“We will create a studio where the musician can record their songs. We will also have a theatre for local dramas,” he added.
Mututho pointed out that Nakuru talent remained untapped due to lack of proper facilities.
“We have been exporting our talents to Nairobi and outside Kenya due to mishandling of their owners. We need to create and nurture our own system,” he added.
He added that this will help many of the youths who are trapped in drug addiction.
“At least their time will be occupied by something different and hence it will also help deal with the issue of insecurity,” he added.
