Boda boda operators in Mwembe estate, Kisii County have decried the rising cases of insecurity that is threatening their operations.
According to the operators, in the past three months, there has been an increase in the incidents of boda boda operators being murdered beside the theft of their motorbikes.
Mwembe estate boda boda group chairman Michael Nyamota accused the police of laxity and said they will soon take to the street to ensure that their cry is heard by the relevant authorities.
“We lost one of our colleagues recently through unclear circumstances and currently, the police have said they are ensuring the security is being beefed up but we are still at risk,” he added.
He said that most of the thugs pose as passengers hence stealing their motorbikes and even kill some of their colleagues adding that the police have not been keen to investigate such cases.
However, Kisii police boss Tom Mutisya said that they have already received the claims and he have already deployed more security officers to the area.
He said that even though the police are committed to tackling the general insecurity in the area, it was the responsibility of every individual to take a personal security initiative by volunteering information to help police apprehend the perpetrators of the crimes.
“We want them to ensure that they join us in the fight and am sure the crimes will be no more,” he added.
