Police in Kisii have launched investigations into the death of a 37-year-old man under unclear circumstances in a bar in Kisii township.
The deceased identified as Richard Mokaya was found dead on Thursday morning in Kisii jazz bar in a room he had booked to spend the night with a female companion.
The staff at the guest house said the body had foam in the mouth as it laid in a pool of vomit; they suspected poisoning as a half full bottle of beer was found in the room.
A bar attendant said that Mokaya was drinking in the bar on Wednesday night with an unknown woman before his death.
Confirming the incident, Kisii County Police Commander Simon Kiragu said they found the body lying on the floor with no physical injuries.
He said the mysterious woman with whom Mokaya was partying with is a person of interest who could unravel the cause of the man’s death adding that investigators had taken samples to the government chemist for analysis.
“We have taken all the drinks and the wet beddings found in the room to the government chemist to enable us to know what killed Mokaya," he added.
At the same time, Kiragu appealed to members of the public who ave any relevant information regarding the woman to avail it to police in confidence.
The body was taken to Kisii level 5 hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
