The National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol (NACADA) is appealing to teachers to frisk their students to ensure no students gets to school drugs.
NACADA Western Kenya Regional Manager Esther Okenya said students were using different means to smuggle drugs into schools.
She urged teachers to be on the lookout and check all liquid contents that students carry to school.
“I appeal to teachers to help us in this fight, please check what your students are carrying into school,” she said.
Speaking in Kisumu on Tuesday during the launch of a roadshow that aims at creating awareness on the dangers of drug abuse in the region, Ms Okenya said female students go as far as hiding drugs in sanitary towels.
Okenya pointed out that the road show truck will traverse the entire Kisumu County to talk about the dangers of drug use.
“Awareness will continue to be created more so that young people neither peddle drugs nor use them since this will dent their future lives,” said Okenya.
Okenya said that NACADA will not stop advocating against drug abuse in the country and called for a concerted effort to defeat the vice.
