National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (Nacada) chairman has called for fresh vetting of the authority's staff including him.

Mututho says a huge percentage of Nacada staff might have been involved in the illegal drug business.

Speaking to this writer in Nakuru on Tuesday John Mututho said Nacada was on the wrong footing because it does not have right people.

“There is need to have fresh vetting of each individual to clean out the mess,” Mututho said.

Mututho asked why he was calling for fresh vetting claimed that the vetting will help unearth staff who might have engaged in drug trafficking and other illegal alcohol business.

“I am clear in my mind that after the vetting, many in the authority will not get a clean bill of health, they are tainted,” Mututho asserted.

Meanwhile, police in Bahati have arrested 10 bar owners operating during restricted hours. Among those arrested in the early morning operation is a college student who police said was found distributing alcohol in a backpack.

The bar owners were allegedly found operating at 9am on Tuesday morning much to the dismay of residents who tipped off the police to effect arrests of the bar owners.

According to Bahati Assistant County Commissioner Geoffrey Githinji who confirmed the incident, residents need to partner more with the government and law enforcement agencies in volunteering information that will lead to arrests of illicit brewers.

“The area security committee had embarked on a sustained joint crackdown exercise against bars operating beyond prescribed hours as well as production and distribution of illicit brews,” he said.
