Barely five days after Kenya power disconnected power supply at the Naivasha Gk prison, the facility is yet to regain the supply. The officer in charge Patrick Mwenda on Wednesday revealed that the prison facility was still in darkness following the Friday move by the power company to terminate electricity supply owing to an alleged debt amounting to Kshs. 6 Million.

Mwenda added that the most affected zones include the prison which currently hosts 3,000 inmates some of who are on death row and the annex facility which has offenders serving jail terms of upto five years. He added that the facility was now staring at a humanitarian crisis following lack of water supply as a result of no electricity.

However, an official from Kenya Power who refused to be named said that the prison kept giving false promises that they would settle the debt forcing them to unfortunately resort to the move.
