Police in Naivasha have been called upon to pull up their socks and enhance security in the area after reports of increased cattle rustling.
Lakeview ward MCA Wanyoike Wanango on Thursday said cattle theft in his ward has reached alarming levels as cows and goats are being stolen on a daily basis and none of them has been traced.
He said that anti-stock theft police who have been trained by the government to handle such cases have been reluctant to act on the reports that have been made by those affected by the theft.
“It is worrying that besides donkeys being stolen and slaughtered, cows and goats are now being stolen everyday in Lakeview and other areas within Naivasha and no action has been taken yet,” he said.
“We have anti-stock theft police unit in the area and they are people who have been trained to handle such cases but we have not seen even a single cow recovered and we have not also heard that the cattle stolen were found slaughtered. It means that they were bundled into a vehicle and transported somewhere which is what they should act on,” he added.
Two weeks ago, Micah Mugambi had his three cows and seven goats stolen. His neighbour Ngure Munuhe lost 15 goats on the same day and has not recovered them since then.
