The Nakuru County Assembly has confirmed the appointment of clerk Joseph Malinda.

Malinda, who has been serving in an acting capacity, was confirmed by the house on Wednesday.

The heated debate, which lasted for about one hour, saw a divided house as some MCAs pledged support for him.

“He has led the assembly with wisdom and the decisions made are always intelligent. As an assembly, we have not witnessed any big fights and misunderstanding like other ones,” said Turi MCA Michael Wangombe.

Viwandani MCA Eunice pointed out that the clerk has always been approachable to the MCAs and listens to their concerns.

However, nominated Member of County Assembly Margaret Kiiru has threatened to challenge his appointment in court.

Kiiru caused a stir in the assembly when she claimed the interviewing panel was not fair, saying the other candidates were not given a fair chance.

“No one will, can abuse my conscience. It is my constitutional right to challenge inappropriateness. The assembly is not a football club for one to wake up and decide how it is going to work,” said Kiiru.

Kiiru termed the move as irregular and unconstitutional.

Nominated MCA Catherine Waweru also called for reforms in the County Assembly Public Service Board.

“We also need to give other people without prior experience the opportunity to defend themselves,” she added.
