The Rift Valley region has registered and issued about 500,000 national identity cards for the past three years in the period running to January this year.

Thomas Gekonde, the regional Registrar of Persons in charge of the South Rift region said despite the region being noted as the one with the highest number of uncollected identity cards, it is also important to consider that it has register the highest number of people for this purpose.

"As a region, up to the end of January this year, we have been able to register about 500,000. We have been able to issue 500,000 identity cards. Nakuru is the leading county in this region with 211,167 identity cards which have been issued out,’ stated Gekonde.

On the other hand, Gekonde who spoke to this writer Thursday in Nakuru has asked those who have not collected their IDs to do so in order to enable them register as voters in the coming general elections.

The South Rift Region comprises of seven counties among them being Baringo, Nakuru, Laikipia, Bomet and Narok.
