The county government of Nakuru has released Sh13 million for the construction of amenities to mitigate road carnage fatalities at Salgaa accident black spot along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
Nakuru county governor Joseph Ruto confirmed that the money will fund the construction of a modern long-distance trucks parking bay at a tune of Sh6 million while the construction of street and security lights along the area will cost Sh1.2 million.
Ruto was speaking on Monday in Salgaa town after a public participation forum organized by the county government.
He also assured residents of the region that the county government will spend another Sh6 million on the construction of waste-water infrastructure along the parking bay to avert damage of the facility by waste water.
"We are very disappointed with the number of road accidents happening along this road every year. This is why we want to improve on the road by constructing parking bays and fixing lights along this area to manage the number of accidents occurring," stated Ruto.
The deputy governor further added that the county will in the next financial year spend an additional Sh1.2 billion on an ultra-modern Trauma center to help in mitigating death and handling fatal injuries that numerous accidents visit upon the highway users annually.
