The Nakuru County government through the ministry of Environment and natural resources, energy and water plans to step up its effort towards combating noise pollution.

Through a Facebook post on Sunday, November 15, the Director of Environment in Nakuru County, Kiogora Muriithi said that the Health ministry plans to step up efforts towards noise pollution in Nakuru County especially during the festive season.

In order to make the said mission successful, he asked Nakuru residents for support through listing the most notorious areas within or close to their neighborhoods; a recommendation that attracted several comments.

While others chose to stick to the topic, others asked the director to clearly state what constitutes noise and others adding other issues that they were concerned about, pertaining to the environment.

"By the way what constitutes noise, and how is it measured. Can something organised like a song, a crusade, a Church service constitute noise. How loud and to what length of time..." said Antony Muturi Ndukanio, who replied to the post.

"These clubs are licensed by the county government knowing very well the dangers they pose to the environment. Secondly, you can issue a simple directive to the operators on the matter and solve the problem.

What you are doing now is to formulate a public outcry so that you can justify unlawful arrest and harassing the operators. Your askari will start extorting a few shillings from here and there which will trickle up to higher offices and make your Christmas's more enjoyable. I have lived here long enough to smell corruption from a safe distance," said Kiarie Peter.

The director who agreed that all businesses are licensed, but however, went ahead to point out that not all of them abide by the law.

"All businesses are licensed but abiding by the law is a different thing all together. We have very many ways of handling grievances. All don't lead to arrest. I only asked good citizens to participate in addressing a matter that is a daily problem. Corruption exists in the mind of a corrupt individual..." answered Murithi.

On the other hand, others took issue with the director of Environment in Nakuru county asking him to concentrate on more urgent matters such as the issue of asbestos some of the houses that are deemed a health risk.
