Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua's wife Lucia has continued to support women from the county suffering from breast cancer.
On Wednesday, she visited two families of women suffering from the illness in Subukia sub-county before proceeding to Happy Church for an empowerment programme for area women.
Speaking at Tabitha Mutundu’s home in Subukia, she said cancer is a debilitating disease but can be conquered with positive attitude and encouragement.
“Cancer is a not a death sentence and it is curable only if detected in early stages. That is why the county government has put in place measure to make sure that women get the requisite facilities needed for screening across all health facilities in Nakuru,” said Mrs Mbugua.
The other patient, Alice Wanjiru said encouragement and show of love that from her family and society at large has renewed hope for winning the fight against the disease.
“What dampens your spirit once the doctor tells you that you have cancer is the lack of love and suppot from family and also the community. But I have it today and I feel so string and I attend my therapies with renewed hope of defeating cancer,” she observed.
Mbugua said the county government will continue supporting the fight against cancer and urged women to go for screening from time to time.
