Majority of motorists plying major highways in and out Nakuru have expressed confidence in the police officer after a two suspected gangsters were gunned down Tuesday morning along the Eldoret-Nakuru highway.
Narrating their ordeals to this writer, they said that the gang had been terrorising them, further thanking the police for eliminating them.
"I was attacked as I was heading to Rongai to visit my daughter in school. These guys were so organised and could convince you that they are police officers on patrol before striking," saidd Kimani Ndung'u, a business man.
He said that the increased police patrols in major towns within the county had pushed many criminals to highway robbery where they rob unsuspecting motorists then drive off unnoticed.
"On highways, the only thing they have to do is beat police road blocks before posing at strategic points waiting for victims," he added.
Anne Muthoni resorted to using public means after an ordeal she says she will live to remember.
"They usually attack on pumps or when one is negotiating a corner, they will then signal you to slow down like normal police officers do on patrol," she said.
The business lady who owns M-Pesa outlets in Nakuru said she travels daily to supervise her business.
She revealed that she was forced to part with Sh60,000 to free herself from the gang.
"I'd rather use a matatu and be safe than use my private car and risk my life. Highway robbery is on the rise in Nakuru," she said.
The motorists also called the traffic department to intensify day patrols along major highways to assure them of their safety this festive season.
