Police in Nakuru on Tuesday morning gunned down two suspected highway robbers alleged to have been stealing from motorists on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway at gun point.

County police commander Hassan Barura said the gang has been on the police radar for some time now, further expressing confidence that the fight against crime in Nakuru County was on course.

“This is among a notorious gang of six operating on motorcycles who have made it a habit of harassing unsuspecting motorists,” he said.

On the fateful day, the gang is said to have trailed a motorist from Rongai town but when they tried to intercept him asking for money and other valuables at gun point, police who were on patrol reacted immediately gunning them down on the spot.

“We were acting from a signal from the Rongai CID department and our team of both uniformed and plain clothes was along the highway ready to apprehend them,” he said.

He advised motorists to be on the alert of a gang who dress in police uniform at night to facilitate their activities.

He advised motorists not to fight them lest they shoot them but not to panic and instead raise the alarm saying police reinforcement is on high alert.

An AK 47 rifle, a police combat jacket, several motorcycle number plates and 27 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the suspects.
